How to Check a Job Offer and Avoid Common Scams
Recognize suspicious requests and protect your identity, account and payment information.
Treat upfront job-access fees as a warning
Be cautious if someone demands a registration fee, deposit, gift card or transfer merely to let you apply or receive work. A legitimate work agreement should explain the actual task and payment conditions. Pressure to act immediately, unusually high rewards and vague descriptions are reasons to stop and ask questions.
Protect your accounts and documents
Never send passwords, one-time codes, banking access codes or remote access to your device to a poster. Do not publish identity-document images in a job description or profile biography. Verify who is asking for information and why it is necessary before sharing personal details.
Confirm details and keep records
Check the employer's identity and confirm the location, scope, price and payment schedule. Save messages and agreements. Smallwork does not guarantee every listing or handle work payments in escrow. Use the Contact page for platform questions; if you suspect financial fraud, contact your payment provider and the appropriate local authority.
